Digital video recording

Ministra Pro's digital video recording (DVR) functionality allows you to provide Catch-up TV, Timeshift TV, and Network Personal Video Recorder (NPVR) services to your end users so they can record content and watch it later. Recorded content is stored on the Flussonic streaming server.

Catch‑up TV allows end users watch programs that were recently broadcast by accessing recordings stored on the server, and Timeshift TV allows allows end users to pause, rewind, or resume a live TV channel by temporarily storing the live stream. NPVR lets end users record, store, and play back TV programmes that are stored on the Flussonic streaming server instead of on their own device.

You can configure the maximum recording duration in the settings for a channel. The recording duration determines which recording services are available for the channel. For example, a recording duration of at least one hour provides only NPVR , while a longer recording duration, for example, seven days, provides Catch-up TV, Timeshift TV, and NPVR.

NPVR

When you enable DVR functionality for a channel, by default, Catch-up TV and Timeshift TV is available to all end users with that channel in their tariff plan. If you want to include NPVR , you must add a service package that includes NPVR to the tariff plan.

Using service package settings, you can control if DVR is available for the channels included in a tariff plan. For example, you can create a service package and add only the channels for which you have disabled DVR. You can then add this service package to a tariff plan.

NPVR recordings

The Ministra Pro administrator panel includes an nPVR tab where you can view the list of NPVR recordings. For each recording, you can see key details such as the customer account number, recording status, TV channel, recording duration, and the amount of storage used.

Recording status indicates if a recording was completed successfully. If a recording failed or is incomplete, you can select it to see the details of the related error. For example, a recording may fail if storage for that channel is not configured on the Flussonic streaming server, or a recording may be incomplete if only part of an episode was recorded due to a network connectivity issue.

The nPRV tab also allows you to view the Recording Planner Service (RPS) Logs. RPS is an automated system that processes EPG data and manages recording tasks. When end users start an immediate recording or schedule a future recording, RPS creates a task that matches the relevant program in the EPG using time, season, and episode filters. RPS also prevents duplicate recordings by tracking previously recorded episodes, and notifies end users when they are nearing their storage limit.

In RPS Logs, you can see when EPG updates happen, and select a recording task to view the details.
