Usage monitoring

Administrators can monitor usage to see data about how their subscribers interact with Ministra Pro end-user applications, and the content to which they subscribe. This allows administrators to understand the streaming habits of their subscribers.

For example, administrators can see how often users log in to their accounts, and the type of content users are streaming.

Account activity​

The Accounts > Logs page allows administrators to view all activities performed by account users, including device logins, media streamed to devices, and details about playback sessions.

The log displays the following event types:

  • play: Logged when a user starts a playback session that continues longer than the minimum default time of 60 seconds. The log includes type, media_id, and start_time.

  • pause: Logged when a user pauses playback during Timeshift TV or Catch-Up TV.

  • stop: Logged when an active playback session is manually stopped by a user, automatically stops at the end of the content, or stops because of an error.

  • error_playing (Android and Android TV only): Logged when one or more errors happen during a playback session. The log displays the total number of errors during the playback session, content_id, and content_type.

  • empty_buffer (Android and Android TV only): Logged when one or more rebuffering events happen during a playback session. The log displays the total number of rebuffering events during the playback session.

IPTV usage​

The Statistics pages provide administrators with access to a selection of statistics related to TV content that is managed by Ministra Pro.

The default streaming time after which the viewing statistics are logged can be changed in the statistics.ini configuration file.

The default statistics collected are as follows:

  • Statistics > TV statistics shows the viewing statistics for a selected time range across all channels that have been streamed to a device for more than 30 minutes. These statistics include the channel title, the number of views, the last date the channel was viewed, and the average viewing time.
  • Statistics > TV archive statistics shows the viewing statistics for a selected time range across all archive channels that have been streamed to a device for more than 30 minutes. These statistics include the channel title, the number of views, and the sum of time that the channel has been streamed.
  • Statistics > Timeshift statistics shows the viewing statistics for a selected time range across all channels that have been streamed to a device for more than one minute in timeshift. These statistics include the channel title, the number of views, and the sum of time that the channel has been streamed.

VOD content status​

You can view a list of status changes for VOD content. Whenever VOD content is edited, published, or scheduled, the VOD > Activity log displays a new entry.

VOD statistics​

Ministra Pro collects VOD playback statistics but does not natively display that data. You can view and visualise the statistics in a third-party observability system, for example, Grafana. To access the statistics, you must transfer the collected data to the Prometheus monitoring system using an SQL exporter. Contact Infomir to obtain the exporter and a dashboard template for Grafana.

The dashboard template displays VOD statistics in the following categories:

  • Device platform
  • Title
  • Account
  • Genre
